Satellite field monitoring
Your whole farm from above, without driving round it
Every few days Nirby shows the condition of every field on Sentinel-2 satellite images, so you see at once where a crop falls behind and where it is worth going.
- 01
NDVI, NDMI and NDRE
Biomass, water conditions and crop condition in later stages, for every field.
- 02
New images every few days
Copernicus Sentinel-2 data at 10-metre resolution.
- 03
Basic monitoring for free
Crop condition monitoring is in Nirby's free base version.
How satellite field monitoring works
Field variability shows at once, before you see it from the tractor.
Choose a field and an index, and the map shows which parts grow differently. It is the basis for zones, soil sampling and precision fertilisation.
Satellite monitoring features
Satellite monitoring for every field on the farm.
Satellite images are linked to fields, crops and treatment history, so you know what you are looking at.
NDVI index
Compare biomass and vigour across fields and within one field.
NDMI index
Track crop water conditions and spot water stress sooner.
NDRE index
Assess crop condition in later growth stages, when NDVI stops differentiating.
Productivity zones
Use image history to draw stable zones for sampling and fertilisation.
Monitoring in the mobile app
Preview satellite images on your phone, even while touring fields.
Field weather forecast
A 7-day hourly forecast helps plan treatments in the right window.
Related Nirby features
Everything works together across the whole farm.
Nirby is one farm management system. Data entered in one place is available straight away in every other module.

FAQ: satellite field monitoring
Frequently asked questions about satellite field monitoring
What is satellite field monitoring?
Regular observation of crops on satellite images. Nirby uses Copernicus Sentinel-2 data and computes vegetation indices that show crop condition and differences within a field.
What is NDVI and how do I read it?
NDVI is the normalised difference vegetation index. The higher the value, the more green biomass. An NDVI map shows at once which parts of a field grow weaker and are worth checking.
How do NDVI, NDMI and NDRE differ?
NDVI shows green biomass, NDMI helps track water content in plants, and NDRE differentiates crop condition better in later growth stages, when NDVI is high across the whole field.
How often are new satellite images available?
Sentinel-2 images the same area every few days. Clouds make some images unusable, so Nirby shows the latest clear images for each field.
What resolution are the satellite images in Nirby?
Sentinel-2 images have a resolution of 10 metres per pixel, enough to see variability within a field and draw zones.
Is satellite monitoring in Nirby free?
Yes, basic crop condition monitoring is in the free version. Advanced indices, productivity zones and sampling tools are in the precision agriculture module.
What can satellite maps be used for?
To find spots to check in the field, compare fields, draw soil sampling zones and prepare variable-rate fertiliser maps.
Does satellite monitoring work on a phone?
Yes. A satellite monitoring preview is available in the Nirby mobile app.
For advisers, laboratories and distributors
Do you work with farmers? Let’s build something together.
Nirby can connect farmers, advisers, laboratories, distributors and crop buyers around the same data. Tell us how you work and we’ll suggest a practical partnership model.
- 01
Distributors & advisers
Fertilisers, crop protection, seed and machineryAdd fertiliser plans, application maps and crop monitoring to your offer. Advisers can work from the same field data as the farmer and discuss specific management zones instead of relying on whole-field averages.
- 02
Soil sampling companies
Laboratories and field crewsWe define sampling zones from satellite imagery and turn lab results into nutrient maps and precision fertiliser plans. You collect the samples; the farmer receives clear recommendations and machine-ready files.
- 03
Agri-food supply chain
Processors, crop buyers and producer groupsBring supplier field-operation and crop-protection records into one digital standard. That makes crop traceability, reporting and contract-growing programmes easier to manage.
