A modern fertiliser recommendation system using satellite data, autonomous drones and soil reflectance spectroscopy to improve crop performance, optimise fertiliser use and reduce CO₂ emissions

Project description

Nirby Sp. z o.o. is carrying out the project “A modern fertiliser recommendation system using satellite data, autonomous drones and soil reflectance spectroscopy to improve crop performance, optimise fertiliser use and reduce CO₂ emissions.”Funding agreement no. FENG.01.01-IP.02-3237/23

Project scope and planned activities

The project includes R&D work to develop a solution for fast, precise soil analysis and field-specific fertiliser recommendations. The project includes:
  • designing and developing an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for soil measurements,
  • carrying out spectroscopy research and developing data-analysis algorithms,
  • building a software platform to manage the measurement system,
  • developing a fertiliser recommendation algorithm based on satellite and measurement data.

Target groups

The project is primarily aimed at:
  • farms,
  • agricultural producers interested in precision agriculture,
  • agricultural advisers and organisations focused on optimising fertiliser use.
The solution is designed for farmers who want to improve production efficiency while reducing fertiliser costs.

Project objective

The goal is to develop an innovative soil-monitoring and fertiliser recommendation system that can analyse soil properties quickly, without relying on conventional sampling and time-consuming laboratory testing.

Expected project outcomes

The project will deliver technology designed to:
  • increase the productive potential of farmland,
  • optimise mineral fertiliser use,
  • reduce CO₂ emissions and the environmental impact of fertilisation,
  • generate digital variable-rate fertilisation maps for use with agricultural machinery.
The project will support the development of precision agriculture and make modern soil-analysis methods accessible to a wider range of farmers.
